An introduction to stamps
Stamps came into existence in 1840 in the United Kingdom of Great Britain. The first ever stamp was the Penny Black that had to be put up on the postal letter by the sender. Soon after this, every country followed Britain in issuing their own postal stamps. It then became a rule to have a stamp on the letter or the mail in order to get it posted. Usually the kind of stamp to be stuck on the mail or the letter depends on the distance to which it is to be delivered. Accordingly the price for each stamp is decided.
How does it look?
Design of postal stamps have also been a topic worth discussion. Mostly postal stamps are either square or rectangular in shape. Apart from these you can even find some stamps in circular, triangular and pentagonal shape. The size of these may also differ, with some being very small and the others being quite big. The material that is used for making stamps can also vary. It is not that stamps can only be made out of paper but stamps have been made of gold foils, silver foils, wood, plastic and even synthetic chemicals in the past.
